Discovered - Mr Mason's Homebuilt Aeroplane!
Many thanks to former Luton Minor owner Roger Callow and to Peter Cook in Kent, who forwarded these lovely atmospheric photos of William Mason, his son Jack and wife Doris, hard at work on their Luton Minor. It adds a new dimension to the term home-built aeroplane!
The second photograph shows the (largely) complete article with the family's elder son Don, in RAF uniform.
Not much else is known, other that Mr Mason senior is thought to have worked at Short Brothers in Rochester. The photograph was thought to be pre-war, but would the JAP engine be a Kelmsley Trust engine, dating the picture to the 1940s or 50s? If you have an answer, please let us know!
